Learning to use the potty and toilet - goodbye diapers!

list In: nursery

When to start learning to use the potty? A child around 18 months of age will at some point show that the best time has come, sending a series of signals. If your child understands and performs simple commands, their diaper is dry every day for a minimum of 2 hours, shows interest in the fact that parents or older siblings go to the toilet, squat, make certain sounds, hide during urination or stool, can calmly sit and mimic the behaviours and activities observed in other people - this is the best time to choose and "tame" a potty!

How to start learning to use the potty?

Take the child to the toilet, familiarize them with the place, explain all activities that you do. Use words that define both parts of the body and specific behaviours.

First, put your child on a potty, even in a diaper or in a clothing. Let them, this way, get used to the new object. Encourage gently to use the potty, talk to the child about saying goodbye to the diaper. Above all, however, do not shout, do not get upset, do not punish your child, if they do not use the potty or maybe they have a little “accident”.

Right potty - what it means and how to choose?

Which potty to choose for the child? First of all, it must be stable and comfortable. It is equally important that this new object, which is supposed to teach them independence is liked by our child. Therefore, when choosing, consider the child’s opinion, you can show them different types and ask which one they like the most.

Toilet seat for children

If your child is keen on imitating adults and is interested in what parents do, it is worth considering choosing a toilet seat cover. Toilet seat facilitates the use of a normal toilet. When choosing the overlay, pay attention to it being matched and stable - the most important thing is that the child feels safe using it. When using a regular toilet, a step stool will be useful - it will allow the child to sit on the toilet seat and then to get off it safely.

How long do I get my child to stop using diapers?

Un-diapering is a process that lasts up to three months - it takes as much time as the child needs to get used to the change. Therefore, there is no point in pushing or forcing the child to use the potty. Learn patience, but at the same time encourage your child to sit on a potty or overlay. After every potty success loudly praise the child and reward them.

At ebiton24 there are potties, toilet seats and step stools that will help during learning how to use potty and toilet independently.
